Donald MacRae was in G squadron of the Lovat's Scouts and went to the Balkans in 8th September 1915 landing at Alexandria 10 days later.  They landed at Gallipoli on the 26th of September. By the 3rd Novenber 1915 Donald died on the hospital ship the Kildonan Castle. 

By this time his mother Catherine was a widow her husband having died sometime between the 1901 and the date of Donald's death. He had brothers John, Hector and George a twin sister Isabella and two other sisters Annie and Davidina.
