42nd Canadian Highlanders

Alexander Wallace Munro was born at Edderton in 1876 to William J  and Ann Munro. His father was a farmer at Meilkle Gluich Edderton.

A Wallace Munro was living in Canada at the outbreak of the war and enlisted in the 42nd Canadian Highlanders. However, before going to Canada he was in the local territorial battalion of the 4th Seaforth Highlanders.

He was killed in action between 3-5th June 1916 at the age of 40 during the Battle of Mount Sorrel and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres
